Nestled in the heard of Yallingup’s bushland, this 1950s weatherboard holiday home stands. Originally a nurse’s homestead, the home has history and character attached. We were tasked with transforming the heritage home into a contemporary holiday home. Drawing inspiration from the client’s upbringing, the architecture was uniquely crafted to show the timeless character of a Queenslander home. Vertical timber added at the base of the home to reflect this client’s vision.

Striving to create an understated home, we sought to create a space that feels warm, authentic and effortlessly inviting. By balancing the heritage cottage with contemporary design, we brought back the life of the cottage by removing contemporary window suites and brining them back to their originality.

Outside, the grounds were reimaged as an extension of the home. A rustic firepit, surrounded by benches craft from reclaimed jetty timbers, invites evenings of storytelling under the starts. Australian natives, and soft landscaping links the property to its local history and surrounding bushland.

Inside and out, every element was chosen to honour the homes heritage while supporting modern living. The result is a sanctuary that balances freshness and character, offering a place where families and friends can create new memories amidst a landscape that celebrates its roots.

Welcome to The Cottage, kick your shoes off.
